Maintenance
Minimized exposure to the following elements is recommended, as they can take their toll on fine jewelry:
SWIMMING POOL & HOT TUB CHEMICALS. They're part of the worst culprits to ruining your 14K gold, gold-filled and sterling silver jewelry.
LOTIONS | PERFUMES | COSMETICS. Put your jewelry on last - after showering & applying products. The milder the product, the better.
SALT. Prolonged exposure to salt and chemicals in sweat or the salt in the ocean can affect fine jewelry. Best to remove your jewelry pieces before working out, or going to the beach.
ACIDITY | SULPHUR. Some household - or food items for example, have high levels of acidity or Sulphur compounds, like onions, pickled items, eggs and steel wool. Avoid contact whenever possible.
If exposure to any of the above cannot be avoided, clean it after, as soon as possible.
BODY CHEMISTRY. It is based on the individual. In rare cases, hormone levels can affect the body alkalinity versus acidity which could cause a reaction with fine jewelry. This is an issue with less than 10% of people though.
