Sterling Silver

Sterling silver is considered a precious metal and is made almost completely from pure silver. It is an alloy containing 92.5% by weight of solid silver with most likely copper as the remaining metal. Fine silver - for example 99.9% pure silver - is relatively soft. Therefore, solid silver is usually alloyed with copper to increase its hardness and strength, making it more suitable and durable for use in jewelry, without affecting its beautiful appearance.
Sterling silver is one of the most commonly used precious metals in high-quality jewelry and accessories. True Sterling Silver is popularly referred to as 925 Sterling Silver or just 925 Silver. It is a great hypoallergenic alternative, since it’s much less likely to cause an irritation or an allergic reaction than non-precious metals. Sterling silver tarnishes naturally and is often purposely oxidized, after which it is polished for highlights to create a vintage effect on jewelry pieces.
